Pulp History Timeline

Pulp magazines had an impact on Americans throughout it’s fairly short history.  Publishers, authors, artists churned out nearly 100,000 magazines during the pulp era’s lifetime.  Perhaps more than 200,000 characters also graced their pages…some lasting decades, more than likely lasting a single story. It was the goal of each participant in the enterprise to make money.  It’s us…the collectors, who romanticize the industry that gave that original audience an outlet of entertainment, and was it’s sole purpose.

It’s the purpose of these pages to try to put into perspective the pulp magazine era with some cold hard facts.  It’s not the intent to strip away the patina of nostalgia that gives us collectors such pleasure in collecting and reading those good old stories…but to highlight the whole field as it really was.

This will be a work in progress…a timeline, in which we will try to show the magazine industry as it reacted to actual history and the ever changing tastes of it’s readership.
